Is Lady Luck finally on my side?

 

I always made stupid decisions for my life and Lady Luck was never on my side. But I may be finally on her side.

  

In 2007, I worked reduced time of 4 8-hours days at my original job, Delta Technology, and came in at my 2nd job, a contractor with Uncle Sam, 2, 3 times a week. That wasn't that bad but the boss there seemed to expect me to do more. In 2008, I selected reduced time of 5 6-hour days. Worked from 7 to 1 at my 1st job and ran over to the 2nd job and worked another 4 to 5 hours. That was too much and decided to end the 2-job stint by the end of the year.

 

When the spring 2008 package was announced at DT, I had got a preliminary job offer from Uncle Sam but not the actual offer (where they specify the grade, step and payscale) and I didn't take it. A couple of days after the window closed, I got a non-negotiable job offer from the Uncle and I wasn't sure if I really wanted to take it and leave DT. I was pissed I missed the package. Then on the same day, I got a new job offer which was $13k more than the first one. I thought that was enough to offset the package I missed and took it.

 

In the fall, DT announced that it was going back into the mother company, Delta. DL pentioners at DT complained that the company announced it after the package was closed because some would have taken it if they had known. The company opened the package again for pentioners only of whom I was one. I got 75% of the package for being on reduced time (which I feel I should have got 100% for being on reduced time for only 2 years out of 31), but, hey, it was better than nothing.

 

2 years later, I hear ex-NW IT managers replace ex-DL employees with Philippino contractors. My manager, CW, never liked me because I criticized her inept crew and she wouldn't have let me stay if she had not been let go first. Today Uncle announced a hire freeze. If I had kept my contractor job here, I would have been without benefits. I would have been quite miserable if I had chosen DL over Uncle.
